Our attention has been drawn to speculations making the rounds, suggesting that at the just-concluded Northern Zone Expanded Caucus Meeting of our great party, certain sacked legislators and the current party chairman were endorsed by Sen. (Dr.) Jonah David Jang and other stakeholders. As concerned youths of Plateau North, it has become necessary to put the records straight in the interest of truth and fairness.
1. On the Party Chairmanship:
It is important to note that the Northern Zone has consistently produced the party chairman for two consecutive terms—first Hon. D.T. Sango, followed by Hon. Chris Hassan. To now suggest that Hon. Chris Hassan should be given another term, thereby extending the chairmanship to the Northern Zone for three consecutive tenures, which is an affront to equity, fairness, and zoning. The chairmanship should rightly shift to the Southern Zone in the spirit of justice.
2. On the House of Representatives Seat (Bassa/Jos North):
The late Haruna Maitala’s tenure was to be completed by Hon. Musa Agah Avia, who pleaded for that opportunity. However, in his quest for power, he sought reelection in 2023 and won but was subsequently sacked by the appellate court, paving the way for Hon. Asama’s emergence through a rerun. Equity demands that Jos North, not Bassa alone, be considered in this rotation.
3. On the Plateau North Senatorial Seat:
Hon. Simon Mwadkwon Davou, who was elected senator, was also sacked by the appellate court. In the aftermath, his brother, Sen. Dachungyang Mwadkwon was presented as a replacement. Plateau North is not and must never be reduced to a family estate; leadership must reflect inclusiveness and fairness.
4. On Sen. Jonah David Jang’s Position:
As an elder statesman and a pillar of Plateau politics, Sen. Jang will not be associated with any divisive or unfair endorsement. At the caucus meeting, he merely expressed a wish for the return of sacked legislators, which is far from an endorsement. It is mischievous to misrepresent his words.
5. On the Genuine Endorsements:
For the avoidance of doubt, the only leaders unanimously endorsed at the Northern Zone Expanded Caucus Meeting were our performing Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and his Deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo.
We therefore call on party members, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the false narrative being circulated. Our commitment remains to equity, fairness, and justice, which are the true pillars of democracy.
Long live Bassa/Jos North,
Long live Plateau North,
Long live Plateau State,
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Signed:
