Alvear Homes Releases Guide to Help Charlotte Home Buyers Prepare for the October 28 Federal Reserve Decision

Ahead of the October 27–28 Federal Reserve meeting, Alvear Homes has published a free guide explaining what a rate decision could mean for Charlotte-area home buyers.

Alvear Homes, a bilingual real estate agency serving the Charlotte metro and Fort Mill, S.C., has released a free guide titled “The Fed Meets Oct 27–28: What a Rate Decision Could Mean for Charlotte Buyers.”

The Federal Reserve’s policy committee meets October 27–28 and announces its decision on October 28. The Fed raised its key rate in September, and the average 30-year mortgage rate climbed to about 7.40% in mid-October, according to Freddie Mac.

The guide explains in plain language why the Fed does not set mortgage rates directly. Mortgage rates tend to follow the 10-year Treasury yield, and they react mostly to the Fed’s outlook on inflation. It walks through three possible outcomes and shows how small rate changes affect monthly payments. It also covers practical steps buyers can take now, including:

Getting pre-approved
Comparing lenders
Asking about rate locks and float-down options
Negotiating seller-paid rate buydowns

The guide also highlights changing local conditions. Charlotte-area closed sales fell 8.7% in August while inventory rose about 7%, giving prepared buyers more room to negotiate.

“Buyers can’t control what the Fed does, but they can control their plan,” said [Jeannie Alvear], co-founder of Alvear Homes. “Our goal is to help families buy with confidence in any rate environment, in English or Spanish.”
