In Santiago de Chile, Amerindia Films announces the release of the most recent feature by award winning Chilean.
Inspired by August Strindberg’s play, LETTERS is an intimate, claustrophobic drama about motherhood, guilt, and the lasting legacy of abandonment. In a decaying house on Chile’s southern coast, a middle-class family is haunted by deception and buried secrets. During Rebeca’s wedding, her father, Silverio, discovers that his wife, Lucía, is having an affair with their son-in-law, Octavio. Driven from his home, Silverio spirals into decline and dies soon afterward. Years later, his children remain trapped in the cold, silent house, emotionally damaged by a childhood shaped by lies and neglect. When Rebeca and her brother Antonio discover a posthumous letter revealing that Lucía squandered the family fortune, their idealized image of their mother collapses. Resentment turns into a desire for revenge as they confront the maternal love they never received. As hostility consumes the family, the house becomes a prison, culminating in a night of violence and fire.
The film stars iconic Chilean actress Silvia Novak, and includes emerging actors Mario Olivares, Benjamín Gorroño, Paula Edwards, Victoria Sepúlveda along with the highly awarded Chilean talent Ricardo Herrera.
