Lassy LL Chiwayo then served as Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Sports, Culture and Recreation, and later in the same province as MEC for Finance (1997 – 1999). Most recently he has served as the Mpumalanga provincial Chief Whip (1999 – 2001).

His subsequent focus have been on executive, legislative, municipal and diplomatic realms, covering a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills including oversight, legislature, administration, institutional coordination, culture, sports and finance.
