Lassy LL Chiwayo's career provides a window into South African public life at various stages of South Africa's political and institutional evolution. His journey has included involvement in the liberation movement, democratic government, provincial government, local government, diplomatic service and now publishing.

Chiwayo's early forays into politics were during apartheid. His engagement in the liberation struggle saw him being detained in 1985 and serving time on Robben Island between 1987 and 1990. These disciplines have proved invaluable in his subsequent career that has included stints in formal democratic institutions and public administration.

From serving in the Parliament as a Member of the Senate representing Mpumalanga between 1994 and 1996, to working as a MEC for Sports, Culture and Recreation, where he was in charge of cultural, heritage, sporting and youth issues, were the beginning of his responsibilities in public office.

His responsibilities in public office further spread into provincial financial administration. Between 1997 and 1999 he was MEC for Finance in Mpumalanga and from 1999 to 2001 Chief Whip of the Mpumalanga Legislature.

His work in government then extended into local government through him being the Executive Mayor of Mbombela Local Municipality between 2008 and 2011 during which period the municipality was involved in hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Chiwayo's career subsequently took on an international flavour through him taking up diplomatic responsibilities related to Central East Asia and regional entities from 2011 until 2012.

And now it extends into publishing. With the release of his books with GlobalX Publications, Leaders, Governors, and Related Stories; and, Leadership. Knowledge and Experiences, author Chiwayo is contributing his life story and experience to a wider body of leadership and professional knowledge.

Publishing allows many others in leadership, research and business the means to turn their research, thesis, business experience and idea into a publication for global consumption and relevance.
