Lassy LL Chiwayo's professional trajectory captures numerous phases in the history of South Africa's political institutions, from the liberation movement to Parliament, in provincial and municipal development, and his roots in the diplomatic arena with career postings abroad and in the region. During his political activism of the apartheid-era, he was arrested in 1985 and imprisoned on Robben Island from 1987 to 1990.

This experience has defined him for many years as a man of political fortitude, resilience, and institutions.

After the political transformation of South Africa, he represented his people as a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature 1994- 96, as an MEC for Sports, Culture and Recreation, and later in the provincial Treasury as MEC for Finance from 1997-1999. At a national level, Chiwayo served as the Chief Whip of the Mpumalanga Legislature in 1999 - 2001. His leadership and commitment to institutions was seen through his next career move as the Executive Mayor of Mbombela Local Municipality from 2008 to 2011. During his time as Executive Mayor, he was involved in the city's 2010 FIFA World Cup preparations.

The man who was inspired by the failures of myopic governments and publication of truth under Apartheid has also authored through GlobalX Publications to leave a legacy of accountability and transparency.
