The journey of Lassy LL Chiwayo encompasses the political history of the country, the governance of the country, the local government leadership, international representations and publishing. His life work encompasses roles that have provided him exposure to different facets of public life through the responsibilities he has shouldered. Chiwayo was among those that fought against Apartheid through the liberation struggle, which resulted him getting imprisoned on Robben Island from 1987-1990 after his arrest in 1985.

Into the new democratic dispensation, Chiwayo became part of the then newly formed democratic structures to head Parliament after being in office between 1994 -1996 as a Senator for Mpumalanga.

It was after heading the seat that he moved into a provincial portfolio to head the department as the MEC for Sports, Culture and Recreation from 1996-1997. His next portfolio was to be in charge of provincial finance where he was the MEC for Finance of the Province from 1997-1999 until he was appointed the Chief Whip of the Mpumalanga Legislature from 1999-2001. 1-3 years later Chiwayo makes another move into another form of public engagement that is municipality in the form of the Executive Mayor of the Mbombela local Municipality, a position he held from 2008-2011, which saw the municipality presiding over the 2010 FIFA World Cup event of international significance. From the municipality he moves into another form of representation in the form of a diplomat serving in different responsibilities related to Central East Asia to regional bodies from 2011-2012. Now a new space for him to express himself as a participant in a foreign knowledge-based community has opened and is through authorship with GlobalX Publications to sell his experiences on the world markets of knowledge.
