St. Petersburg, Florida - Roosevelt International University recognizes that with research skills, learners can examine and evaluate ideas and then form supported opinions.

Research is an important part of the educational process as it pushes students to get beyond the basic facts. Good research questions lead to well-organised investigations based on potential sources and could go on to evaluate the evidence. Learners can then construct a better understanding of a topic.

With the internet at their fingertips, the skill of evaluating credibility becomes all the more critical. Students must weigh the original source, the publication context, the information and evidence, and look for any limitations of what they find. Comparing several credible sources allows students to identify discrepancies in interpretation and develop skepticism of unsupported ideas.

Roosevelt International University advises interested individuals to familiarize themselves with the academic demands of the target program. Depending on the program, learners may be asked to research a subject, provide a written paper, analyze a published work, or conduct other research before they can begin earning a degree.

Another important function of research skills is directly related to work and practical life. A worker can apply research to learn about developments and how to make a comparison among options. Also, research can be done to find out the causes of specific things or problems, and help to make decisions.

Ethical research involves the correct use of references, honest reporting, and attribution of ideas. Students are advised to adhere to the relevant academic policies and explicitly differentiate between their own interpretation and the use of ideas from others.

Over time you can develop good methods of researching, including posing good questions, collecting your notes systematically, fact checking and confirming your conclusions.
