FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chicago, IL – June 2026 – BD Food Safety Consultants announced the expansion of its food safety training and consulting services to help food businesses prepare for compliance with the FDA Food Traceability Rule (FSMA Section 204), one of the newest requirements under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
The Food Traceability Rule establishes enhanced recordkeeping and traceability requirements for foods included on the FDA Food Traceability List (FTL). While the original compliance date was set for January 26, 2026, the FDA extended enforcement by 30 months, moving the compliance deadline to July 2028. The extension provides additional time for food businesses to develop systems capable of tracking products throughout the supply chain.
The regulation requires covered entities to establish a Food Traceability Plan, identify Critical Tracking Events (CTEs), and maintain Key Data Elements (KDEs) necessary to support rapid traceability during food safety investigations and recalls. The rule affects a broad range of businesses, including farms, processors, packers, storage facilities, retailers, and food service establishments handling foods on the FDA Food Traceability List.
To support industry compliance efforts, Bart Dobek of BD Food Safety Consultants has successfully completed FSPCA Lead Instructor Training for Food Traceability. The company is preparing to launch public Food Traceability Training courses later this year, available in both classroom and online live formats.
“Food businesses have a valuable opportunity to prepare before the 2028 compliance deadline,” said Bart Dobek. “Establishing an effective traceability program now can help organizations improve recordkeeping, strengthen supply chain visibility, and meet future regulatory expectations.”
In addition to training programs, BD Food Safety Consultants offers consulting services to assist companies with developing and implementing Food Traceability Plans, evaluating compliance gaps, and creating practical traceability systems aligned with FDA requirements.
Food businesses seeking assistance with Food Traceability Rule compliance can contact BD Food Safety Consultants for training schedules, consulting support, and implementation guidance.
