Baar (July 20, 2026) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 093.26, highlighting Australia’s revision of the Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management Standard (IChEMS) Register.

The Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) issued the Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management (Register) Amendment (2026 Measures No.1) Instrument 2026 (the Amendment) in June 2026. Under the Amendment, several chemicals and groups of chemicals are added to the nation’s IChEMS Register Instrument 2022, under the Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management Standard (IChEMS).

Key provisions in the Amendment include an IChEMS Schedule 2 Register designation for glycerides, as well as listings for five chemicals under Schedule 3, five under Schedule 4 and eight under Schedule 5. A revision of the list of time-limited essential uses for UV-328 in Schedule 6 and the addition of two chemicals to Schedule 7 are also included. Another change is an update to risk management measures in Schedule 7 for hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), a persistent organic pollutant that was widely used as a flame retardant.

The Amendment became effective on June 19, 2026, the day after registration on the Federal Register of Legislation. It affects stakeholders across multiple industries and supply chains, such as manufacturers, users, importers and exporters of the applicable industrial substances, as well as those dealing with products that contain or are contaminated by them.
