SGS reports on Montenegro’s new regulatory requirements for documentation demonstrating compliance with lead and cadmium migration limits for food contact ceramics.

Baar (August 20, 2026) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 110.26, outlining Montenegro’s new regulation for ceramic articles intended to come into contact with food and the associated compliance documentation requirements.

Published on June 24, 2026, in the Official Gazette of Montenegro (OGM), the Regulation on ceramic articles intended to come into contact with food, OGM No. 87/2026 (‘the Regulation’) updates the country's regulatory framework for food contact ceramics and replaces the previous legislation.

The Regulation introduces documentation requirements to demonstrate compliance with applicable lead and cadmium migration limits. Stakeholders may be required to provide supporting evidence, including laboratory test results and information on test methods used to assess compliance.

The Regulation affects stakeholders across the food contact ceramics supply chain, including manufacturers, importers, retailers and other intermediaries operating in Montenegro. It entered into force on July 2, 2026.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 110.26 includes additional information on the Regulation and its requirements.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 110.26 for more details.
