Baar (October 14, 2026) – SGS, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 133.26 on a UK proposal to update designated toy safety standards that provide presumption of conformity with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 in Great Britain.
On September 23, 2026, the UK's Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) issued a proposal to amend the list of designated toy safety standards for Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).
The proposal would replace EN 71-4:2020 with EN 71-4:2020+A1:2025 for experimental chemistry sets and introduce two new standards covering formamide in foam toy materials and certain chlorinated phosphorus flame retardants in toy materials.
If adopted, the changes would take effect on October 22, 2026, unless the proposal is withdrawn or revised before that date. The proposal may impact manufacturers, importers, retailers and other stakeholders across the toy supply chain in Great Britain.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 133.26 provides additional information on the proposed changes and their implications for the toy industry.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to SafeGuardS 133.26 for more information.
