Established in 2020, KIMCHANGSOO DISTILLERY is an independent Korean craft distillery founded by master distiller Kim Changsoo, widely recognized as a pioneer of Korean single malt whisky. Built on his determination to create a truly Korean-made whisky, the distillery reflects years of dedication, study, and hands-on craftsmanship.

Kim Changsoo deepened his understanding of traditional whisky-making by visiting numerous distilleries across Scotland, learning firsthand about regional styles and production philosophies. He further strengthened his technical foundation through professional training in Japan, where he gained practical experience in small-scale distillation and precision-driven production methods. These global experiences shaped his vision of combining tradition with innovation under Korea’s unique environmental conditions.

Located in Gimpo, near Seoul, the distillery began as a small-scale artisanal operation featuring self-designed stills. With a strong emphasis on carefully selected ingredients, meticulous distillation, and experimental cask maturation, the distillery seeks to express a distinctive Korean identity in every bottle. Korea’s significant seasonal temperature variations accelerate the interaction between spirit and oak, contributing to a bold and unique maturation profile.

Since its launch, Kim Changsoo Whisky has attracted considerable attention both domestically and internationally. Limited releases have sold out rapidly, and global whisky media have highlighted the distillery’s lightly peated single malts—whiskies inspired by Islay traditions yet shaped by Korea’s climate and craftsmanship.

With a second, larger production facility currently under development in Andong, KIMCHANGSOO DISTILLERY is expanding its capacity and ambitions. By balancing artisanal creativity, strict quality standards, and a forward-looking vision, the distillery continues to strengthen the presence of Korean single malt whisky on the global stage.
