CareerThirst Urges Students to Verify UGC-DEB Recognition Before Taking Online MBA Admission in 2026-27

CareerThirst's new guide explains Online MBA admission 2026-27, including UGC-DEB recognition, eligibility, fees, specialisations and the 13 October deadline, to help students choose the right university.

Noida, 5 October 2026: With the UGC-DEB admission window for the August 2026 session closing on 13 October 2026, career counselling platform CareerThirst has published a guide to help graduates and working professionals choose an Online MBA carefully. The guide stresses that students should check recognition, eligibility, total fees and career fit before paying any university.

According to the UGC-DEB portal, the last date for admitting learners into ODL and Online programmes for the August 2026 session is 13 October 2026. Individual universities may close admissions earlier. For example, NMIMS listed 8 September 2026 as the closing date in its published 2026 admission schedule. CareerThirst advises students not to treat the UGC deadline as proof that every university is still accepting applications.

Recognition comes first

The guide advises students to confirm that the university appears on the UGC-DEB portal and that the MBA is permitted in online mode for the relevant academic year. A university being recognised does not mean every online course it advertises is covered. Students applying to recognised online or ODL programmes are also required to create a DEB ID, which is linked to the Academic Bank of Credits ID.

Eligibility and entrance exams

Eligibility varies by university, but the basic requirement is usually a bachelor's degree from a recognised university. NMIMS, for instance, asks for a graduation degree with a minimum of 50% marks, or 45% for specified reserved categories. Many Online MBA programmes do not require CAT, MAT or XAT, but this differs from one institution to another, so students should check the admission criteria of the exact university.

Look beyond the headline fee

Fees vary widely. NMIMS and JAIN Online both list a full programme fee of about ₹1.96 lakh, but extra charges can change the final cost. The guide asks students to add up registration, examination, project, re-examination, learning platform and certification fees, along with any EMI charges, before comparing programmes.

Choosing the right specialisation and format

The guide covers Finance, Marketing, HR, Business Analytics, Operations and IT Management, and advises students to choose based on the role they want next, not on what is popular. It also compares an Online MBA with a distance MBA and a regular MBA. Working professionals, entrepreneurs and graduates who cannot relocate may find the online format suitable. Students who want campus recruitment and in-person networking should compare regular MBA programmes as well.

On placements, CareerThirst cautions students to ask for programme-specific information. General university placement claims do not show what Online MBA students can expect.

Comment from CareerThirst

"Many students start with the lowest fee or the most visible advertisement. The right Online MBA depends on your career goal, specialisation, university recognition, total cost, learning format and career support," said CareerThirst. "Our aim is to help every student compare options clearly and make an informed decision, not push everyone towards the same university."

Free counselling

CareerThirst offers free Online MBA counselling. Counsellors help students compare universities and specialisations based on their graduation marks, work experience, career goals, budget and learning preferences. They also explain the admission process, required documents and deadlines.
