Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, 9 October 2026: Chie Design, a luxury interior designer in Mumbai, designs each furniture piece in its residential projects for the individual client rather than specifying catalogue items, with kitchens and furniture drawn to the household's use and the final cost set only once working drawings are complete.
The studio's process moves from floor plan and furniture layout options to concept presentations with at least three options per space, then into detailed design, where every element is worked out. Working drawings follow for cost finalisation, so the client signs off on a figure drawn from the actual design. Customised kitchen designs and furniture designs are produced at this stage, alongside realistic visualisations of the finished space.
"A sofa from a catalogue was designed for a living room the designer never saw," said Mithila S., Founder and Principal, Chie Design. "In a Mumbai flat the wall is never quite the length you want, the window sits where it sits, and the family has its own idea of how many people sit down on a Sunday. If we draw the piece for that room, it fits. If we price it after we have drawn it, the number holds."
Materials are sourced to the design, covering stone, marble, tiles, fabric, wallpaper, veneer, laminate, glass, mirror, cladding and metal in the finishes specified, along with HVAC, switches and paint shades. The studio's interior architects advise clients on the practical side of each choice as the design develops.
The approach runs across Chie Design's residential, commercial and hospitality work in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Goa and Qatar, and sits alongside its boutique furniture solutions service.
