Discover Tej Patta uses in Indian cooking. Learn how to use Indian bay leaf in biryani, dal and pulao, with simple cooking and storage tips.

Tej Patta Uses are common across Indian kitchens, especially in dishes where a warm and layered aroma is required. Also known as Indian bay leaf, tej patta is generally added whole during the early stages of cooking so its flavour can gradually infuse into the dish.

One of the most popular Indian Bay Leaf Uses is in biryani and pulao. Heat a little oil or ghee, add one or two leaves and allow them to bloom for a few seconds before adding onions and other whole spices. This creates an aromatic base for the rice. Tej patta also works well in dal, rajma, chole, khichdi and slow-cooked gravies.

Learning How to Use Tej Patta correctly is simple. For a dish serving three to four people, one or two leaves are generally sufficient. Since the dried leaf remains tough after cooking, remove it before serving.

Whole leaves should be stored in an airtight container away from sunlight, moisture and stove heat. Crush a small portion occasionally to check the aroma. If the fragrance has become very weak, it may be time to replace the pack.

With proper blooming and storage, tej patta can become a dependable whole spice for adding subtle aroma to everyday Indian meals.
