The company’s mission is to empower Melbourne homes to live more sustainably through clean energy solutions, professional installations, and end-to-end rebate management.

Melbourne households are set to gain a major boost in their journey toward energy independence with the rollout of the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, officially commencing on July 1, 2025.

The initiative, backed by a $2.3 billion national investment, aims to make home battery storage more accessible, with the goal of installing one million batteries across Australia by 2030. The rebate is expected to cut upfront battery installation costs by around 30%, giving Melbourne homeowners the chance to save up to $3,720 on a typical 10 kWh system.

As a trusted accredited provider under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) and Solar Victoria programs, Climate Green Melbourne is helping local residents take full advantage of this opportunity by providing expert installation, professional guidance, and seamless access to government rebates.

Making Energy Storage Affordable for Melbourne Homes

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program works under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) — the same mechanism behind Australia’s solar rebates. The incentive is offered through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), which reduce installation costs upfront, providing immediate financial relief for homeowners.

In 2025, eligible batteries will receive 9.3 STCs per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of usable capacity, equating to roughly $372 per kWh in savings.

“At Climate Green Melbourne, we see this program as a turning point for households looking to take control of their energy use,” said a company spokesperson. “Battery storage not only helps save money but also supports Australia’s clean energy future.”

Who Stands to Benefit Most?

The program is particularly valuable for high energy users, including:

Large or multi-generational families

Households with electric vehicles (EVs)

Homes with ducted air conditioning, spas, or pools

Property owners seeking energy independence or blackout protection

The rebate covers up to 50 kWh of usable battery capacity, making it ideal for both smaller urban homes and larger suburban properties.

Eligibility & Standards

To qualify, households must meet the following requirements:

The battery must be installed alongside or connected to a solar PV system.

The system must have a total capacity between 5 kWh and 100 kWh (rebate applies up to 50 kWh).

Installations must be carried out by Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA)-approved professionals.

Batteries and inverters must appear on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved product list.

For grid-connected homes, the battery must be Virtual Power Plant (VPP) capable.

Climate Green Melbourne supplies and installs only CEC-approved systems from trusted global brands such as GoodWe, Growatt, and Dyness, ensuring compliance, performance, and rebate eligibility.

Why Act Now

The rebate’s value will gradually reduce over time, meaning early adopters will enjoy the greatest financial advantage.

“This program gives households the chance to future-proof their homes,” said the Climate Green Melbourne team. “By investing now, homeowners can secure government support, cut power bills, and strengthen their energy independence.”

Driving Melbourne Toward a Cleaner Energy Future

The Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program supports Victoria’s broader push toward electrification and renewable energy adoption. Through this initiative, Climate Green Melbourne is committed to helping residents make the transition to sustainable power simple, transparent, and affordable.
