As more international travelers, investors, students, and expatriates choose Ghana as their destination, understanding the country's healthcare system has become quite important. Recognizing this, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Ghana is now encouraging foreign nationals to familiarize themselves with the healthcare services available across the country, so they can safely invest in Ghana or have a safe and comfortable stay.

Ghana offers a well-structured healthcare network comprising public hospitals, private healthcare facilities, specialist clinics, and pharmacies. Major cities, like Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, are also home to internationally accredited treatment facilities, and while public healthcare remains affordable, many foreigners also opt for private hospitals due to shorter waiting times and personalized care. Besides, a new National Non-Resident Visitors Health Insurance Scheme (NNRVHIS) has been launched to specifically cover short-term visitors (less than six months), and this digital platform allows foreigners to apply for health coverage remotely before they even arrive in the country.
A spokesperson from the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Ghana says: “Healthcare is an essential part of every travel experience, and Ghana continues to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure, while ensuring that residents and international visitors have access to quality medical services when they need them.” The Consulate also reminds travelers to carry essential prescription medications in their original packaging, stay updated on recommended vaccines, and know the location of nearby healthcare facilities during their stay.
