New Delhi, March 2026 – Corpseed ITES Pvt. Ltd., a leading business consulting firm in environmental compliance and waste management solutions, welcomes the recent policy updates introduced by the Government of India to strengthen the plastic recycling ecosystem. These developments are expected to create significant opportunities for businesses, especially MSMEs, while improving environmental accountability across industries.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has introduced stricter compliance measures under the updated Plastic Waste Management Rules. From 2025 onwards, companies are required to use a minimum of 30% recycled plastic content in packaging. Additionally, the introduction of EPR certificate trading allows recyclers to generate additional revenue by selling certificates to Producers, Importers, and Brand Owners (PIBOs) to help them meet their obligations.
Another important step is the introduction of phased targets for rigid plastic reuse, beginning with 10–15% in 2025–26 and increasing gradually. These measures are expected to improve traceability and encourage responsible plastic usage across industries.
To support businesses in adapting to these changes, the government has launched a ₹3,000 crore subsidy scheme aimed at 15,000 MSMEs. The scheme offers 25–30% capital subsidy on plant and machinery, along with a 5% interest subvention on loans up to ₹5 crore. It also provides funding support of up to 60% for adopting cleaner and more efficient recycling technologies.
Infrastructure and innovation are also receiving attention. Initiatives such as plastic-to-fuel pilot plants and facilities converting low-value plastics into usable products like chipboards are expanding the scope of recycling. These efforts are helping address the challenge of managing previously non-recyclable waste.
The plastic recycling industry in India is projected to grow steadily, with increasing demand for sustainable practices and regulatory compliance. This growth is expected to generate employment and create new business opportunities across the country.
