Overview
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has rolled out various useful technological advancements in February of 2026. It marks the beginning of an accelerated, paperless, and entirely online trade compliance process. The changes affect the lives of various exporters, importers, manufacturers, etc., in the country, particularly those who have or apply for various DGFT registrations such as IEC, RCMC, Trade Licenses, etc.
The latest update brings an upgraded eBRC self-certification system, a newly developed eCoO 2.0 system, and reaffirms the mandatory update of IEC every year during April to June a step many businesses seem to ignore.
What’s Changed and Why It Matters
Until now, exporters depended heavily on banks and manual follow-ups for eBRC issuance. With the updated eBRC system, exporters can now self-certify eBRCs based on electronic Inward Remittance Messages (IRMs), cutting weeks of delay. Similarly, the launch of eCoO 2.0 means all Certificates of Origin applications must now be filed only through the upgraded platform. Older workflows are no longer supported.
“We are seeing exporters lose benefits simply because they missed the IEC annual update or continued using the old CoO system,” said a DGFT compliance expert at Corpseed. “These are not policy changes on paper; they are system-level changes. If you’re not aligned digitally, your application will stop moving.”
A Brief Overview Of Key Updates From DGFT
eBRC System (Feb 2026): eBRCs can now be self-certified by the export community based on IRM Data, and will not require any member signature.
Certificate of Origin: eCoO-2 is now required for all new applications.
IEC: Every year, all IECs must be updated online between April and June.
RCMC: The entire process for a Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) is now completely electronic (e-RCMC).
Licensing and Registration: DGFT's portal is now designed for faster approvals for Licenses and Registration.
Halal Certification: Export of meat is regulated under the Halal certification procedure in most cases.
Steel IEM: Completed all applications received under Steel IEM electronically.
DGFT Registration & Compliance-What Businesses Should Do Now
In order to register with the DGFT, new users must create an account on the DGFT website(dgft.gov.in) by providing their PAN, email address, mobile number, and digital signature certificate or Aadhaar e-signature. Although you will always have your International Import and Export Credit (IEC) number, if you do not complete your yearly update, your IEC number will automatically become inactive.
Many exporters are currently facing disruptions to their business operations due to blocked shipping bills, delays in receiving incentives, or rejected applications.
