DOWNTOWN CITY PARK — The rhythm of music and the pulse of movement filled the air Saturday night as hundreds gathered to watch the city's top dance performers at the 12th Annual Arts & Culture Festival. Among the most talked-about acts of the evening was Rhythm Collective, a local dance troupe whose electrifying fusion of contemporary, hip-hop, and traditional dance left audiences on their feet.
The event, hosted by the City’s Department of Cultural Affairs, featured over 25 performances from local artists representing diverse backgrounds and styles, from classical Indian Bharatanatyam to street-style breakdancing. highlight of the evening came when Rhythm Collective performed their piece titled "Origins," a high-energy routine blending Afrobeat, modern jazz, and spoken word.
The group, led by choreographer Laila Grant, received a standing ovation. "It's not just about dancing — it’s about telling a story,” said Grant after the performance. “We wanted to pay tribute to the cultural roots of movement and how dance evolves through generations.
"IN addition to performances, the festival offered free dance workshops for all ages, including salsa, ballet, and K-pop choreography sessions, which were packed with enthusiastic participants. For many attendees, the night was a celebration of creativity and community.
“I brought my daughter to her first dance event, and now she wants to sign up for lessons,” said local resident Jamal Ortiz. “It’s inspiring.
"Organizers said the festival continues to grow each year, and plans are already underway for an expanded event in 2026.
