38.9% Increase in Skin Tightening: What Global Data Reveal About the Evolution of Aesthetic Medicine

Global ISAPS data show significant changes in non-surgical aesthetic treatments. Skin Atelier in Kilchberg, Switzerland, combines aesthetic medicine, laser therapies and medical skincare with individual consultations.

Kilchberg, Switzerland, 13 October 2026 – Aesthetic medicine continues to evolve. Alongside traditional injectable treatments, device-based procedures designed to tighten the skin are gaining prominence. This is reflected in the Global Survey 2024 published by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) in June 2025. According to the survey, approximately 1.24 million non-surgical skin-tightening procedures were performed worldwide by plastic surgeons in 2024, representing an increase of 38.9% compared with 2023. The number of recorded hyaluronic acid treatments also rose by 5.2%, reaching approximately 6.34 million. These figures offer insight into international developments in aesthetic medicine, but they do not establish a corresponding increase in Switzerland.

Nearly 38 Million Aesthetic Procedures Worldwide

In total, ISAPS recorded approximately 20.5 million non-surgical and 17.4 million surgical aesthetic procedures worldwide in 2024. Compared with 2020, the overall number increased by 42.5%. The survey is based on information provided by plastic surgeons and therefore does not cover every aesthetic treatment performed by all professional groups worldwide.

Individual treatment categories also developed differently. While hyaluronic acid treatments increased compared with 2023, the number of recorded botulinum toxin treatments fell by 17.4% over the same period. The figures therefore do not indicate uniform growth across all treatment categories.

Skin Tightening, Skin Texture and Individual Treatment Goals

The increase in non-surgical skin-tightening procedures raises an important question: which treatment is appropriate for a particular skin condition and individual goal? Skin laxity, pigmentation changes, fine lines, scars and volume loss represent different concerns. They cannot all be addressed appropriately with the same method.

Skin Atelier in Kilchberg, near Zurich, offers a range of aesthetic medicine and medical skincare treatments. These include microneedling, Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling, laser and IPL treatments, as well as injectable treatments involving hyaluronic acid and biostimulators. The suitability of a particular treatment depends on the individual’s starting condition, treatment goals and medical suitability.

According to its website, the clinic’s approach includes a consultation during which the skin, personal preferences and possible treatment options are discussed. Skin Atelier states that its aesthetic medical treatments are performed by a physician with more than ten years of experience in surgery, internal medicine and sports medicine. Skin and body treatments also form part of the clinic’s range of services.

Wellness Infusions: A Treatment Concept That Requires Evidence-Based Expectations

Skin Atelier also offers vitamin infusions through its in-house Drip-Spa. In this area, an important distinction must be made: an infusion delivers substances directly into the bloodstream, but this does not automatically establish an additional health benefit.

A 2023 article published in the Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin concluded that high-quality scientific evidence supporting the benefits of high-dose vitamin infusions in people without a specific vitamin deficiency or relevant medical condition is lacking. Intravenous vitamins may be appropriate for certain medical indications, but this does not establish general benefits for energy, immune function or skin health.

For aesthetic medicine, the implication is clear: treatments should not be selected solely because they are popular. The specific indication, qualified medical assessment, information about potential risks and realistic expectations of benefit are all important considerations.

A More Nuanced Perspective on Modern Aesthetic Medicine

The international ISAPS figures illustrate the growing diversity of non-surgical aesthetic medicine. They also provide an opportunity to distinguish more carefully between individual procedures and their actual applications. For patients, the relevant question is therefore not simply which treatment is popular, but which method is suitable for their individual circumstances and which outcomes are supported by scientific evidence.

According to its own description, Skin Atelier follows an approach that brings together aesthetic medicine, medical skincare and complementary treatments. The clinic is located at Weinbergstrasse 2, 8802 Kilchberg, Switzerland, and has seven treatment rooms.
