Call Before You Dig, Inc. Reminds Connecticut: Notify 811 Before Any Spring Excavation

Cheshire, CT — April 16, 2026 — As National Safe Digging Month began in April, Call Before You Dig, Inc. (CBYD) is continuing the reminders for Connecticut residents and businesses that state law requires anyone using power or mechanized equipment for excavation to contact CBYD at least two working days before digging. Homeowners and contractors can submit an e-ticket at www.CBYD.com or call 811. The service is free.

Digging without knowing what lies underground can cause utility damage, service outages, injuries, or worse. CBYD, a non-profit clearinghouse of Connecticut’s utility operators, works to prevent these incidents by coordinating the marking of underground facilities statewide.

CBYD also offers a free online education course, Education Access, covering excavation planning, best practices, and Connecticut regulations. Additional tools and resources — including Damage Access and the Design & Survey Tool — are available at www.CBYD.com.

The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) oversees and enforces CBYD regulations. $949,300 in civil penalty fines were issued for violations in 2025.
