Budget is part of the picture too.
Concrete is generally cheaper upfront. Pavers take more time, labour, and base preparation. But Gippsland soil shifts seasonally. A paved surface flexes at the joints. A concrete slab moves as one piece, and when the ground beneath it shifts, it shows. Over 20 to 30 years, the cost gap between them looks very different.
When does each surface actually make sense for your home?
Choose pavers when the soil shifts, the design may change, or the build could extend later. Go with concrete when simplicity, a fixed structure, and a lower upfront cost are what matter.
Choose decking when the block slopes and excavation is not practical. If your home has a traditional look the other surfaces cannot match, decking may fit as well.
None of the three is universally better. The right one comes down to your actual home.
