Book release - "Girls Become Doctors and Much More"- Inspiring Stories of Women in Medicine, available September 8, 2025.

READING, Pa. — Dr. Olapeju Simoyan, an accomplished physician, author and speaker, will release her new book, Girls Become Doctors and Much More, on Amazon and other outlets Sept. 8. The book shares stories of women physicians who defied expectations and redefined what it means to serve in medicine.
“Representation matters,” Dr. Simoyan said. “When young girls see what’s possible, it helps them imagine their own futures more broadly. This book is both a celebration of women in medicine and a reminder that our lives often unfold in ways we could never predict.”
“[In Girls Become Doctors and Much More], Dr. Simoyan doesn’t just tell stories of achievement; she invites readers into a beautifully woven tapestry of identity, creativity and purpose. The women featured in this book break barriers not only in their clinical fields, but also in how they bring their full selves—artist, advocate, healer, human—to the practice of medicine,” said Susan Hingle, MD, professor at SIU School of Medicine and former president of the American Medical Women’s Association. “This book will uplift students, energize professionals and light the path for anyone daring to dream beyond the expected.”
What began as a project to spotlight the journeys of women in medicine has grown into a collection of personal reflections and narratives about possibility, resilience and the many ways callings expand over a lifetime. Drawing from portraits and quotes she gathered during her medical humanities fellowship at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Simoyan weaves together stories that both inspire and challenge readers to consider their own potential.
Dr. Simoyan is known for her multifaceted career and creative approach to medicine. She invites audiences to rethink what it means to serve, lead and live fully human in professional spaces. She holds degrees in medicine, dentistry and public health, and is a fellow of both the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Women’s Association. She is also a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. As a scholar and professor, Dr. Simoyan speaks and writes to inspire the next generation of medical professionals.
