Miranda, NSW - 21 September, 2026
Dr Alan Evans, an experienced ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon based in Miranda, is drawing attention to the ongoing interest in rhinoplasty across Sydney, as more residents consider surgical options to address their individual concerns and goals.
With over 20 years of experience in both functional and cosmetic facial procedures, Dr Evans has a special interest in rhinoplasty. He has performed more than 1,000 rhinoplasty procedures throughout his career, with each procedure planned around the individual patient's anatomy, needs, and treatment goals.
"Rhinoplasty is a complex cosmetic surgical procedure because both aesthetics and functionality need to be considered," Dr Evans notes. "Each patient requires an individual assessment to determine the most appropriate treatment approach."
Why Sydney Patients Are Turning to Rhinoplasty
More commonly known as a "nose job," rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose and may improve its appearance. Depending on the patient's individual needs, rhinoplasty may involve changes to the size or shape of the nose, nostrils, bridge, or tip.
Beyond aesthetic goals, nose surgery may also be considered for breathing problems, nasal obstruction, birth defects, or injury-related changes. The suitability of surgery varies between patients and can only be determined following an appropriate assessment.
A Personalised, Technology-Driven Approach
Every rhinoplasty consultation with Dr Evans begins with a thorough physical examination to assess the patient's individual needs and determine the most suitable surgical approach. Using digital enhancement technology, Dr Evans is able to use visual planning during consultation to help patients discuss possible treatment options. These images should not be considered a prediction or guarantee of the final result.
Dr Evans and his team offer open and closed rhinoplasty techniques, tailoring the choice to each patient's individual anatomy and surgical requirements. Open rhinoplasty involves an incision across the columella as well as incisions inside the nose, while closed rhinoplasty is performed through incisions inside the nose. Each technique has advantages and limitations, which can be discussed during consultation.
Surgery takes between two and three hours under general anaesthetic in a hospital setting, although the duration can vary depending on the individual case and its complexity.
Recovery and Results
Patients are advised to rest with their head raised for the first couple of days following surgery, avoiding bending, lifting, jogging, or straining for two to three weeks. Most patients are able to return to work within seven to ten days, although recovery times vary between individuals and depend on the procedure performed.
Final results continue to settle over nine to twelve months, as initial swelling subsides. Patients should follow their surgeon's postoperative instructions throughout the recovery period.
As with any surgery, rhinoplasty carries potential risks, which may include bleeding, infection, changes in sensation, scarring, breathing difficulties, asymmetry and the possibility of further surgery. Patients should discuss the potential risks, benefits and recovery process with their surgeon before deciding to proceed.
