Mumbai, Maharashtra, June 2026 — Dr. Amol Bhanushali, Honorary Thoracic Surgeon at the Municipal TB Hospital in Sewri, Mumbai, has completed seven consecutive years of performing surgery on chronic tuberculosis patients free of cost, as part of his continued involvement in TB and cancer awareness initiatives across the city.
Many of the patients treated at Sewri have battled multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) for years, with lungs severely damaged by the disease before surgical intervention. Dr. Bhanushali's work at the centre has focused on cases where standard medical treatment alone has failed to resolve the infection.
"These patients have often been fighting TB for the better part of a decade by the time they reach us," said Dr. Amol Bhanushali. "Being able to offer surgery free of cost at Sewri means that financial hardship never has to be the reason someone doesn't get the operation they need to survive."
Dr. Bhanushali's broader practice, based at Dr. Bhanushali Hospital and the Centre for Lung Surgery in Thane, applies the same minimally invasive Uniportal VATS techniques used in his private practice to complex TB and lung cancer cases at Sewri, drawing on his fellowship training from Tata Memorial Hospital and international centres in the US, UK, and China.
He continues to combine his clinical practice with his role as Managing Trustee of Kaushalya Medical Foundation Trust Hospital, a charitable hospital serving Thane's wider community.
