Pinoy Kids Read Launches New Tool That Helps Readers Request Books From Public Libraries

QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES — Pinoy Kids Read has launched a new online feature that allows Filipino readers, parents, students, teachers, and librarians to request books from public libraries more easily, while helping raise awareness about local library services across the country.

Called “Request a Book,” the new feature connects readers with a growing Public Library Directory Philippines and provides a simple way for users to suggest titles they would like their local libraries to acquire.

The initiative was developed to support reading access, encourage greater use of public libraries, and help bring more Filipino books closer to communities.

While many public libraries already accept book recommendations from patrons, the process is often unfamiliar to the general public. Pinoy Kids Read hopes the new tool will make library participation more visible and accessible, especially for young readers and families looking for local titles.

“Many readers do not realize they can actively help shape the collections in their local libraries,” said Pinoy Kids Read. “We want to make that process easier while encouraging communities to engage more with public libraries and reading programs.”

The feature also highlights the role of libraries as community learning spaces. Beyond providing access to books, public libraries serve students, educators, researchers, and families who may have limited access to educational resources at home.

The launch comes amid continuing discussions about reading culture, literacy development, and access to books in the Philippines. Various literacy advocates, publishers, educators, and government initiatives have emphasized the importance of expanding reading opportunities for children and young people.

The platform is particularly interested in helping readers discover and request Filipino-authored books, including children's literature and middle-grade titles that are often harder to find outside major bookstores and urban centers. The National Book Development Board has previously identified readership development and support for Filipino-authored books as key priorities in strengthening the local book ecosystem.

The Request a Book feature is currently available on the Pinoy Kids Read website and is actively being developed as part of broader efforts to connect readers, libraries, authors, and educators.

Users may submit book requests, explore participating libraries, and learn more about public library access through the platform.
