COLOMBO, SRI LANKA – City of Dreams Sri Lanka has launched the seventh edition of its Artist Spotlight series with "Urban Pop – Colombo Reconstructed," a contemporary art exhibition by Sri Lankan multidisciplinary artist Charith Wijesundara, curated by Kasun Jayamanne.
Presented in partnership with John Keells Foundation, the exhibition transforms Level 23 of City of Dreams Sri Lanka into a vibrant exploration of Colombo’s evolving identity. Through layered imagery, architectural influences, street culture, and contemporary visual storytelling, the collection captures the energy, contradictions, and cultural diversity of modern urban life.
Drawing inspiration from his background in architecture and self-taught artistic practice, Wijesundara reinterprets familiar Sri Lankan symbols, myths, and everyday visual culture through a modern lens. The exhibition reflects how tradition and contemporary experiences intersect within Colombo’s rapidly changing landscape.
Curator Kasun Jayamanne describes the works as a reconstruction of Colombo through memory, emotion, and overlapping experiences rather than direct representation. The exhibition highlights the city's transformation while encouraging dialogue around culture, identity, and creativity.
The Artist Spotlight initiative continues City of Dreams Sri Lanka’s commitment to supporting local artists and strengthening Colombo’s position as an emerging destination for contemporary art and cultural engagement. The programme provides a platform for creative expression while fostering meaningful connections between artists, audiences, and the wider community.
"Urban Pop – Colombo Reconstructed" is now open to visitors at City of Dreams Sri Lanka, offering art enthusiasts, collectors, and visitors an opportunity to experience Colombo through a fresh contemporary perspective.
