Discovery, Gunn and producer Peter Safran have been tasked with building a new long-term strategy for DC’s film and television projects.

The goal of this initiative is to create a stable, creative, and audience-friendly cinematic universe that can grow for many years. Unlike earlier attempts to build interconnected superhero franchises, the new DCU will focus on strong storytelling, completed scripts, and diverse genres.

One of the most important changes introduced by Gunn is a strict script-first policy. Under this approach, no project can begin filming until its screenplay is fully written and approved. This decision is intended to improve story quality and prevent costly production issues that often arise when films begin shooting without finalized scripts.

Another key part of the strategy is making sure that every project works as a standalone story. While the films and television series will share the same universe, audiences will not need to watch multiple shows to understand a single movie. This approach makes the franchise more accessible to both longtime fans and new viewers.

Other planned titles such as Supergirl and Clayface will further expand the range of genres within the DC Universe, including science fiction and horror-inspired storytelling.

In addition to the main DCU timeline, DC Studios will continue supporting independent projects under the Elseworlds label. This allows filmmakers to develop unique interpretations of DC characters without affecting the central storyline.
