In the wave of increasing nutritional issues over Pakistan due to recent floods, key experts and stakeholders met today at NUR International University, Raiwind Road, Lahore, to discuss the growing issue of malnutrition of both urban and rural populations.

Dr. Tahir Zahoor, an authoritative figure in the field of social health, gave an impressive speech to a heterogeneous group of people consisting of nutritionists, corporate executives, lawyers, and regulators. In his keynote address, Dr. Zahoor highlighted the seriousness of the situation with the rampant cases of nutritional deficiencies that can only be tackled by community actions, which have escalated over the recent monsoon floods.

The floods have not only left families homeless, but also interfered with food supply chains and access to healthcare, exacerbating an already vulnerable nutritional context, according to Dr. Zahoor. "It is time to create grassroots mobilization and involve local communities in nutrition recovery initiatives that is the only way to go."

Alongside him was Dr. Shazia Zahra who stressed on the value of nutrition education over the long term. She emphasized that the future of a healthier and a more resilient Pakistan can be established through the public awareness and early dietary interventions.

According to Dr. Zahra, nutrition is not a health topic alone, but a national development topic. "The future of our children is based on the way we react today."
