The First Filipino Dragon Boat Festival in Montreal
Montreal, QC – The Filipino community in association with the 22 Dragons in Montreal is unleashing the Filipino Dragon Boat Festival, a full day of high-energy dragon boat racing, music, and cultural performances set against the scenic backdrop of the Lachine Canal on July 25, 2026. This watershed event will curate paddlers, families, and supporters from across the city to celebrate Filipino heritage, teamwork, and community spirit.
The event is being orchestrated in order to highlight the growing influence of the Filipino community towing their need to protect and preserve sacred & cultural spaces in Montreal.
Throughout the day, mixed teams of paddlers will compete in a series of exciting dragon boat races designed for both newcomers and experienced athletes. Spectators can expect heart-pounding finishes, friendly rivalries, and an up-close look at a sport rooted in centuries-old Asian traditions that has now become a global phenomenon.
Beyond the water, the festival will feature Filipino food vendors, cultural booths, and musical entertainment that showcase the richness and diversity of Filipino-Canadian life in Montreal. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy classic Filipino dishes, discover local Filipino organizations, and experience performances that highlight the community’s rich cultural tapestry.
The organizers aim to make the Filipino Dragon Boat Festival an annual signature event that strengthens ties between the Filipino community and the broader Montreal population. By choosing the Lachine Canal—already known as a venue for dragon boat competition and community races—the festival builds on Montreal’s growing paddling culture while introducing a distinctly Filipino flavor to the city’s summer calendar.
Whether you are a seasoned paddler, a first-time participant, or simply looking for a unique cultural and sporting experience, the Filipino Dragon Boat Festival welcomes everyone to “paddle together” and celebrate unity on and off the water.
The venture is held in association with the local chapter of the knights of Columbus and the 22 Dragons Boat, Montreal.
