Copthorne Garage Warns Ford Drivers: Don't Ignore the "Wet Belt" Inside Your Engine

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Copthorne, West Sussex — Ford Wet Belt Specialists, an independent garage in Copthorne near Crawley and Gatwick, is urging owners of Ford EcoBoost and EcoBlue vehicles to check when their engine's timing belt was last inspected, as the "wet belt" design used in many popular models can wear early if servicing slips.

Unlike a conventional cambelt, a wet belt runs inside the engine, bathed in oil. Ford introduced the design on engines including the 1.0 EcoBoost (found in the Fiesta, Focus and EcoSport) and the 2.0 EcoBlue diesel used in the Transit and Transit Custom. When oil changes are missed or the wrong oil is used, the belt can degrade and shed material, which may block the oil pick-up and starve the engine of lubrication. Warning signs can include an oil pressure light, unusual engine noise or loss of power — and by then, serious damage may already have occurred.

Ford Wet Belt Specialists recommends a more cautious replacement interval than many owners expect: around six years or 60,000 miles for EcoBlue engines, because real-world servicing rarely follows the schedule perfectly.

The garage offers fixed-price wet belt replacement, with the oil pump belt included, a 12-month warranty, and work carried out by Ford-trained technicians with more than 15 years' experience. Same-day service is often available. It also replaces timing chains on Ford engines.

"A lot of drivers have never heard of a wet belt until something goes wrong. A replacement at the right time costs far less than a new engine, so our advice is simple: check your service history, and if you're unsure, get it looked at."
— Jamie, Ford Wet Belt Specialists

Prices include VAT and start from £1,140 for the Transit and Transit Custom, with the 1.0 EcoBoost at a fixed £1,356.
