Toni Akin Joins New England’s Largest Virtual Learning School
Providence, RI – September 22, 2025 — Toni Akin, respected Providence community leader and former School Board Member, is set to join the staff of New England’s largest virtual learning school. Akin currently serves on the Providence Housing Commission and brings a diverse background in education to her new role.
With a career spanning K–12, higher education, public and private institutions, boarding schools, and theological education, Akin is no stranger to the evolving landscape of learning. During her time on the Providence School Board, she also served on the district’s AI Committee, where she helped explore how emerging technologies could enhance student outcomes—a perspective that aligns naturally with the digital innovation at the heart of virtual education.
Notably, Akin earned her own bachelor’s degree through a distance learning program during its early formation—a personal experience that deepened her advocacy for accessible, flexible education.
“I know firsthand the level of commitment and focus virtual learning requires,” Akin said. “I’m excited to bring my passion for education into this next chapter and contribute to a platform that continues to redefine how students learn.”
Akin’s appointment reinforces the school’s mission to provide high-quality, innovative education to students across the region, and her wealth of experience is expected to enhance both instructional and community engagement initiatives.
