Kogaion Bridges Norway and Romania Through a Shared Vision of Symphonic Black Metal
International black metal project combines music, visual art and storytelling to build an immersive artistic identity.

Kogaion, a Norwegian-Romanian symphonic and atmospheric black metal project, continues to establish its presence with a distinctive artistic approach that blends music, visual storytelling and mythology into a unified creative vision.

Rather than functioning as a traditional band, Kogaion was built around the idea that every artistic element should contribute to the same narrative. Composition, vocals, visual art and production are treated as interconnected parts of a larger world, allowing each release to become more than a collection of songs.

The project brings together founder, composer and lyricist Rune "Metalum" Ødegård, Romanian vocalist and visual artist Madina "Maddox" Ika, and drummer Kåre "Ronove" Lund. Although separated by geography, the three artists share a commitment to creating music driven by atmosphere rather than convention.

Ødegård and Lund first became involved in Norway's underground black metal community during their teenage years, later contributing to various independent projects before choosing to pursue a new artistic direction. Their years of experience within the genre laid the foundation for what would eventually become Kogaion.

The project gained a new dimension after Ødegård connected with Romanian artist Madina "Maddox" Ika. What began as conversations about music and visual art developed into a creative partnership built on shared artistic values. The collaboration united Scandinavian black metal traditions with Romanian mythology and visual expression, forming the identity that defines Kogaion today.

Their debut album, Echoes Of Black Silk Angels, represents the first chapter of that vision. Featuring eleven original compositions, the album combines aggressive black metal, symphonic arrangements and cinematic atmosphere while exploring themes of mythology, solitude, transformation and nature.

Each member contributes beyond a single role. Rune "Metalum" Ødegård composed the music, wrote the lyrics and, together with Kåre "Ronove" Lund, completed the album's mixing and mastering. Madina "Maddox" Ika created the album's visual direction and artwork while contributing symphonic vocals. Lund also designed Kogaion's official logo, reinforcing the project's visual identity.

"Kogaion has never been about following trends," the band says. "Our goal is to create an artistic world where music, atmosphere and visual storytelling exist as one."

As the project continues to grow, Kogaion plans to expand its artistic universe through future releases, editorial publications and new creative collaborations while remaining committed to authenticity and artistic independence.
