Gastroenterology and Nutrition, P.C. Reminds Forest Hills Residents That Colon Cancer Screening Should Begin at Age 45

FOREST HILLS, NY – Gastroenterology and Nutrition, P.C., a gastroenterology practice serving Forest Hills and the surrounding Queens communities since 2008, is reminding area residents that screening colonoscopy is now recommended beginning at age 45 for adults at average risk.

The updated recommendation follows an increase in colorectal cancer diagnoses among younger adults. Colonoscopy remains one of the most effective screening methods because it can detect and remove precancerous polyps during the same procedure, helping prevent cancer before it develops. Adults with a family history of colorectal cancer may need to begin screening earlier, often around age 40.

To help reduce barriers to screening, Gastroenterology and Nutrition, P.C. performs colonoscopies in its own AAAASF-accredited office and offers more than one bowel preparation option, including a tablet-based prep for eligible patients. The practice also provides sedation for patient comfort, free consultations, weekend appointments including Sundays, and care in English, Russian, and Spanish.
