In late 2025 and continuing into 2026, a wave of 49 ADA-related lawsuits was filed in Gainesville and surrounding areas, highlighting the growing importance of website accessibility for individuals who rely on assistive technologies such as screen-reading software. The suits, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida by plaintiff Makeda Evans and her attorney, focus exclusively on the accessibility of business websites, not physical locations.
The businesses named in these lawsuits include:

“These lawsuits underscore that accessibility is no longer optional online,” said a representative from GetADAAlert. “Businesses may face legal action if their websites are not compatible with assistive technologies, even if their physical locations meet ADA standards.”
Many of the cases have already resulted in confidential settlements, while others remain active. Local attention is growing, with business owners increasingly seeking guidance on how to ensure their websites are fully accessible to all users.
