Targeted CAPEX Savings of $2,000/kW Through Onsite, Behind-the-Meter Power Generation

Global Research and Development Inc. has launched its innovative nano-membrane solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology, a game-changing behind-the-meter power solution designed to meet the surging energy demands of AI data centers.

Global Research and Development Inc. today unveiled its innovative nano-membrane solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology. The company's proprietary SOFC units will deliver modular 1 MW outputs, scalable from 1 MW to multi-gigawatt data center campuses. These systems operate on abundant natural gas, with full hydrogen compatibility, and provide direct 800 VDC (or +/-400 VDC) output. This eliminates the need for grid-dependent high-voltage transformers, switchgear, rectifiers, and multiple AC-DC conversion stages, while achieving high electrical efficiency—up to 60%+ on natural gas or hydrogen.

Key Advantages Include:
• Significant CAPEX Savings: Targeted system sales price under $2,000/kW enables potential savings of $2,000/kW (or $2B/GW) compared to traditional grid-dependent infrastructure, which often involves costly utility upgrades, high-voltage equipment and extensive conversion stages. Additional savings arise from bypassing turbine generators or higher-cost competing SOFC solutions.
• Speed, Reliability, and Resilience: The modular design supports rapid deployment, high uptime for dense GPU/CPU workloads, and direct compatibility with emerging 800 VDC (or +/-400 VDC) data center buses.
• Alignment with Industry Trends: This solution supports the shift toward onsite, behind-the-meter generation using high-efficiency fuel cells to overcome grid constraints and accelerate AI infrastructure scaling amid record power demand growth.

"AI is transforming the world, but power availability remains the single biggest limiter to growth," said Mike Tomsic, President of Global Research and Development. "Our nano-membrane SOFC systems deliver unmatched efficiency, substantial cost savings, and exceptional reliability—empowering data center operators to scale confidently with low-cost, independent power. We are actively partnering with hyperscalers, developers, and infrastructure providers to bring this technology to market."

Global Research and Development is advancing toward rapid commercialization, with prototypes in testing and targeting initial deployments in 2027–2028 through scalable, modular systems optimized for superior performance on natural gas and hydrogen fuels.
