The education solutions company showcased how understanding children’s reading proficiency can help schools make book recommendations more meaningful.

GroBro, an education solutions company focused on children's reading proficiency, presented its GroBro Adaptive Library at the Education Supplies and Furniture Expo (ESFE) 2026, held from 6 to 8 October at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO, Mumbai.

At ESFE, GroBro introduced school leaders and education stakeholders to an approach that places the reader at the centre of library planning. The initiative addresses a common challenge in school libraries: while students in the same grade may have access to the same books, their ability to read, understand and interpret those books can differ considerably.

Traditionally, book recommendations in schools often rely on age or grade. However, these indicators do not always reflect a child's actual reading proficiency. GroBro's Adaptive Library approach aims to help schools bridge this gap by connecting an understanding of children's reading proficiency with relevant book recommendations.

- Understanding the Reader Before Recommending the Book

At the core of the GroBro Adaptive Library is the GroQuotient (GQ), GroBro's framework for understanding reading proficiency, including comprehension, vocabulary, inference and the ability to connect ideas and make meaning from text.

Through the GQ Test, schools gain insights into students' reading proficiency. These insights inform the curation of GQ-Mapped Books, helping schools build library collections that are more responsive to the reading needs of their students.

The approach brings together reader insights, curated books and a Library Management System that enables schools to manage book inventory, circulation and user access through an online dashboard. Librarians can use the available information to guide book recommendations and help students find books that are appropriate for their reading proficiency.

Rather than relying solely on grade-based recommendations, the approach encourages schools to consider where children are as readers and how their reading experiences can support further growth.

- Making School Libraries More Meaningful for Every Reader

A school library's value extends beyond the number of books it holds. Access to books that children can understand, engage with and learn from is also an important consideration.

By connecting reading proficiency insights with book curation and library management, GroBro aims to help schools make more informed decisions about their library resources and student reading experiences.

ESFE 2026 provided an opportunity for GroBro to present this approach to the education community and introduce the GroBro Adaptive Library as a way for schools to think differently about book recommendations and library utilisation.

The presentation reflects GroBro's broader focus on making reading proficiency more visible and using that understanding to guide meaningful reading experiences for children.
