Salford, UK - Nov 2025 - Headlight glare and poor visibility on dark winter roads are becoming a common complaint among UK motorists. In response, HIDS-DIRECT, a specialist in HID xenon kits, LED car bulbs and OEM lighting parts, has launched its Safer Lights Safer Nights campaign to help drivers get their headlights under control.
The new initiative includes a free online Headlight Health and Glare Check, a simple MOT lighting checklist and clear guidance on legal versus illegal lighting upgrades in the UK.
“Drivers are caught between wanting brighter lights to see where they are going and worrying about dazzling everyone else,” said Martin Fance, Director at HIDS-DIRECT. “At the same time, there is confusion about which LED or xenon upgrades are actually road legal and how headlight aim affects glare. Our Safer Lights Safer Nights campaign is designed to cut through that confusion and give straightforward, practical advice.”
The Headlight Health and Glare Check shows motorists how to spot common problems such as yellowed lenses, faded halogen bulbs, mismatched pairs and misaligned beams. Most of the checks can be done at home in a few minutes without tools.
The MOT checklist highlights the lighting issues that can trigger a test failure, including non-functioning lamps, incorrect colours, cracked lenses and severely misaligned beams. By running through the list in advance, drivers can fix simple issues before they become expensive retests.
The campaign also explains the differences between road-legal halogen upgrades, OEM xenon systems and the many aftermarket LED headlight bulbs now on sale. HIDS-DIRECT stresses that most H7 LED headlight bulbs and similar products are for off-road or for-show only and should be clearly labelled as such.
“We are not in the business of selling anything at any cost,” added Fance. “For customers who want road-legal upgrades, we recommend quality halogen or OEM-style xenon parts from trusted brands. For those who want LED styling for off-road or for show use, we make the limitations clear and help them choose the right products.”
The Safer Lights Safer Nights guide also points drivers towards suitable winter upgrades in the HIDS-DIRECT range, including brighter H7, H4 and H11 halogen bulbs, OEM xenon replacements, fog light improvements and interior and number plate LEDs.
