WOODLAND, California —The HIVE, Northern California’s largest varietal honey and mead tasting room, celebrates four sweet years during a free and open to the public event on Saturday, November 15 (11 a.m. – 5 p.m.) at The HIVE, located at 1221 Harter Ave. in Woodland, CA.

“This year we celebrate 46 years in business as Z Specialty Food and the fourth year in our new home, The HIVE. Since opening in 2021, The HIVE has become a vibrant community gathering space that shares our family’s passion for honey bees, varietal honeys and pollinators with each visitor who walks through our doors,” says Joshua Zeldner, Nectar Director at Z Specialty Food.

“The HIVE’s Anniversary Party is an opportunity for us to connect with our community and give back with free music, deep discounts and educational activities while we celebrate honey, pollinators, friends and community. Last year we were thrilled to have 1000 visitors throughout the event,” shares Zeldner.

This celebratory event is packed with interactive activities, holiday discounts, giveaways and live music from Ideateam Guests will learn how to taste honey with the pros, participate in tours of The HIVE’s zero-net energy production facility and pollinator gardens, partake in the Spelling Bee or Waggle Dance Competition and relax in the courtyard with seasonal farm-to-fork fare. Kids activities include a scavenger hunt through two acres of pollinator habitat, kids-only giveaways, an elaborate costume corner and educational honey bee shows with Uncle Jer (including a live demonstration beehive).

Visitors will taste and learn about more than 30 varietal honeys, honey fruit spreads, nut butters and hive products as well as a curated selection of mead (the alcoholic beverage made from honey). The HIVE’s craft kitchen will feature a special menu showcasing local and seasonal produce, products and honeys.
As always there will be a heavily discounted holiday sale of products from The HIVE’s local honey brands, Island of the Moon Honey and Moon Shine Trading Company.

Amina Harris, Queen Bee at Z Specialty Food explains, “During this year’s Anniversary Party, I’ll be leading several guided honey tastings to help participants of all ages notice each varietal honey’s unique color, flavor, aroma and texture. Everyone walks away with a new discovery.”
