NASHVILLE, Tenn., September 8, 2026 — The video of the deadly Amazon Air cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport raises serious questions about whether the flight crew landed too far down the runway and failed to use available braking systems, according to aviation attorney Keith Williams.

Williams, of The Keith Williams Law Group, said his review of video footage of the September 6 crash suggests the Boeing 767-300 touched down roughly halfway down the runway — leaving the crew with significantly less runway available to stop the aircraft.

“All pilots are trained to land within the first one-third of the runway,” Williams said. “When you land halfway down the runway, you have already spent a significant amount of the runway before you even begin the stopping process.”

The aircraft reportedly overshot the runway at Miami International Airport, struck multiple vehicles and erupted in flames before coming to rest near a roadway. Five people were killed and five others were injured.

Williams also asked why the pilot did not attempt to perform a go-around if they believed they would overshoot the runway. “A go-around gives the pilot a second chance to make the landing and bring down the aircraft safely.”

He also said the video appears to raise questions about whether the aircraft’s spoilers and thrust reversers were deployed as expected.

“There is no apparent evidence from the video that the spoilers or thrust reversers were deployed,” Williams said. “Those systems are critical to slowing a large commercial aircraft after touchdown. If they were not deployed, investigators need to determine why.”

Williams cautioned that the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation will be necessary to determine exactly what happened. Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft, flight data and cockpit voice recordings, runway conditions, weather, airport infrastructure and the actions of the flight crew.

But, he said, the circumstances visible in the crash video warrant close scrutiny of the landing itself.

“The key question is not simply whether the plane ran off the runway,” Williams said. “Investigators need to determine where the aircraft touched down, how much runway remained, how quickly the crew initiated braking and whether all of the aircraft’s stopping systems were functioning and properly deployed.”
