Event is in memory of head instructor's father, who passed away from complications related to dementia.

Nokado School of Self Defense, a traditional Jiu-Jitsu martial arts studio serving the Kings Park community for over 45 years, will host a free self-defense class on Saturday, March 21, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association®. The studio is located at 48 Main Street, Kings Park.

Open to individuals ages 12 and up, the class will be led by Head Instructor Michael Saltzman and will cover practical self-defense techniques designed to promote safety, awareness, and confidence. No prior martial arts experience is needed, and all skill levels are welcome.

This community-focused workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn real-world self-defense skills while also supporting a cause that impacts millions of families nationwide.

The Alzheimer’s Association® is the nation’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research, and proceeds from the class will directly support its mission.

The event continues a long-standing tradition at Nokado of offering free self-defense classes as a way of giving back to the community. Since taking over the school in 2022, Mr. Saltzman has turned these events into fundraisers for the Alzheimer’s Association® in memory of his father, who passed away from complications related to dementia.

“This class is about more than martial arts, it’s about community,” Mr. Saltzman said. “We want people to leave feeling more confident, more prepared, and proud to be part of something that supports families affected by Alzheimer’s.”

While the class is free to attend, a suggested donation of $20 will be collected to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association®.
