In conjunction with Veterans Day and in recognition of November being National Military Family Month, attorneys with the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Project will provide a free legal clinic for veterans and their families on Friday, November 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the association’s headquarters, located at 560 Wheeler Road in Hauppauge.
Attorneys from throughout Suffolk County representing a range of important practice areas to veterans will provide free legal help with veterans’ and disability rights, family and matrimonial law cases, trusts and estates, contracts, business law and other matters. Some of the organizations that will be in attendance include Angel Warriors, Calm Seas Psychotherapy, the Economic Opportunities Council of Suffolk, Inc., Howard Silverman, former IRS agent, Suffolk County and its Veterans Service Agency, the Town of Babylon, United Veterans Beacon House and the Veterans Defense Program
Originally established by the Armed Services YMCA in 1993, National Military Family Month is observed every November and honors the daily sacrifices, resilience and contributions of military spouses, children and extended family members who support service members and veterans.
“We wish to thank the attorneys with the Pro Bono Project who are volunteering their time and talents to provide legal assistance to those who served,” says Cynthia Doerler, Executive Director, SCBA. “Suffolk County has the largest veteran population in the state. For them, we need to do more than just thank them for their service. It is about navigating the maze of legal issues these veterans may be facing as they now make, or have made, the transition to civilian life.”
