Tulum Tacos & Tequila is expanding its Long Island presence with a third location at 180 Boardwalk in Long Beach, where guests can currently preview the brand’s newest concept through a limited-time bar pop-up ahead of the anticipated September opening of Hacienda Tulum.
The pop-up offers an early taste of Hacienda Tulum’s food and beverage program, pairing high-end cocktails with select dishes inspired by the forthcoming restaurant. The pop-up will continue until Hacienda Tulum opens around mid-September.
Hacienda Tulum, a new creation from the owners of Tulum Tacos & Tequila, will introduce a Mexican-style fine dining steakhouse built around the concept of presenting the “flavors of Long Island through a Mexican lens.” Located directly on the waterfront, the approximately 200-seat, year-round restaurant will combine traditional Mexican flavors with steaks, whole fish, seafood and composed dishes in an oceanfront setting.
For owners and longtime friends Nicolas Geeraerts and Tommy Mitsios, the opportunity to open directly on the water was a major factor in choosing Long Beach for the brand’s third location. The oceanfront setting provides a natural backdrop for a concept inspired by both Mexico and Long Island, while creating a destination intended to serve the community throughout the year.
Geeraerts brings decades of hospitality experience to the project. After beginning his career at his family’s restaurant in Belgium, he went on to work with prominent chefs and hospitality groups, including Patina Group, Jean-Georges, Todd English, Delmonico’s Restaurant Group, and JF Restaurants. He later launched Tulum Tacos & Tequila on Long Island, growing the brand from Mineola to Baldwin and now Long Beach.
“The Long Beach community is absolutely amazing,” Geeraerts said. “It’s a whole different level than anywhere else. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. For us to be a part of it, I’m super excited.”
Leading the culinary program is Chef Eduardo Salgado, a chef and vineyard owner in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico. Salgado has developed a menu built around five base moles, 12 to 14 composed dishes, eight cuts of meat and six to eight whole fish selections, along with an amazing raw selection including ceviches, aguachiles, both local and West Coast oysters, and of course seafood towers.
The restaurant will also incorporate high-quality seasonal Long Island produce, fresh seafood sourced from local fishermen, and premium meats from Pat LaFrieda.
The menu is designed to introduce guests to Mexican flavors and preparations that go beyond more familiar interpretations of the cuisine. Its five moles will provide the foundation for several dishes, with each incorporating distinct ingredients, preparation methods, and flavor profiles. The Mother mole was started on June 10th, 2026.
Guests can currently preview several of these flavors through the limited-time bar pop-up. Menu selections include Duck Carnitas Flautas with black summer truffled mole, Baja Tostada with smoked tuna pâté and Baja ceviche, Long Island Duck Carnitas tacos with coloradito mole, and Pat LaFrieda Sliced Ribeye tacos with poblano mole and salsa macha. Cocktails include the Piloncillo Passionfruit Mezcalita and Prickly Pear Champagne Margarita, as well as the award-winning Rubi cocktail (Black Cherry -Yuzu Margarita) on draft.
“We are talking about tastes you can only get in Mexico City,” Geeraerts said. “It won’t be Americanized. Not Cancun, not Cabo. I’m talking about real, traditional Mexican fare.”
The Long Beach property will offer two distinct ways to experience the Tulum brand. Tulum Taco Stand has already opened along the oceanfront, providing a casual option for beachgoers with the fan-favorite tacos from the Mineola and Baldwin location as well as bowls, nachos, churros, frozen margaritas, canned cocktails, and aguas frescas. Hacienda Tulum will serve as the property’s elevated, sit-down experience, with plans to serve lunch, brunch, and dinner year-round.
Hacienda Tulum will feature indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, as well as a 24-seat private dining room.
Guests will have access to a private 100-space parking garage with an elevator providing direct access to the restaurant, along with planned valet service seven days a week. The dedicated garage is separate from parking for residents of the adjoining condominium and apartment complex.
Hacienda Tulum is anticipated to open around the middle of September at 180 Boardwalk in Long Beach. Until then, guests can experience a preview of the restaurant through its limited-time bar pop-up.
