Humayun’s Tomb Museum brings Mughal history to life through immersive galleries and artefacts, enriching the experience of Delhi’s UNESCO World Heritage landmark.

Nestled at the entrance of one of World Heritage Sites Delhi, the Humayun’s Tomb World Heritage Site Museum heralds a new chapter in heritage interpretation and cultural engagement. Officially inaugurated in July 2024, this state-of-the-art museum is the first of its kind to be built on the premises of a World Heritage Site in India.

A Journey Through Seven Centuries
Designed as a sunken underground bridge linking Humayun’s Tomb with the verdant Sunder Nursery, the museum offers visitors a compelling journey through seven centuries of the Nizamuddin area’s history. Through immersive digital experiences, galleries, and interactive exhibits, it narrates the cultural, artistic, and architectural evolution of this historic landscape.

Showcasing Rare Artefacts
The museum houses over 500 artefacts, including Mughal miniatures, manuscripts, coins, astrolabes, celestial spheres, and stone inscriptions — many displayed for the first time. These pieces bring to life the era’s craftsmanship and the pluralist cultural traditions that thrived in the region.

Immersive Galleries for Every Visitor
Among its highlights are The Immersive Gallery with a panoramic 270° screen, the Emperor’s Gallery exploring Humayun’s life, and the Icons of Nizamuddin Gallery featuring celebrated historical figures. Each gallery enriches understanding of the tomb complex’s heritage within the broader context of Delhi’s cultural tapestry.

Designed for Modern Engagement
Blending thoughtful architecture with contemporary museum practices, the space also includes an auditorium, temporary exhibition areas, a library, and visitor-friendly amenities. The design enhances educational outreach and cultural dialogue.

Enhancing the World Heritage Experience
As part of the broader conservation efforts across the Nizamuddin and Sunder Nursery precincts, the museum deepens appreciation for one of World Heritage Sites Delhi. It strengthens the connection between past and present, inspiring both locals and travellers to explore Delhi’s rich historical roots.

A Gateway to History
More than a repository of objects, the Humayun’s Tomb Museum acts as a gateway — bridging eras, traditions, and stories that have shaped the soul of the city. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, student, or casual visitor, the museum invites you to explore the heart of Delhi’s heritage like never before.
