ALLENTOWN, PA and KINGSTON, PA — October 12, 2026 — Hitcho Insurance Agency, a veteran-owned, independent Pennsylvania insurance agency that specializes in the senior insurance market, is encouraging people with Medicare to review their coverage before the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) begins on October 15. This year, AEP runs from October 15 through December 7.
AEP is the yearly window when people with Medicare can review, change, or switch their coverage. During this time, people can:
Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan, or vice versa
Change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another
Switch Medicare Part D (prescription drug) plans
Enroll in, drop, or switch a Part D plan
Any changes made during AEP take effect January 1 of the following year.
Even people who are satisfied with their current plan can benefit from a review, because several things can shift from year to year without much warning. Drug formularies can change, which means a medication that was covered last year may move to a different tier or drop off the list entirely. Provider networks can change, as doctors, specialists, and hospitals move in or out of a plan's network. Premiums and out-of-pocket costs also adjust annually.
This is especially relevant for anyone whose care team was recently affected by a network change, such as the LVHN and UnitedHealthcare Advantage split earlier this year. For those enrollees, AEP is an opportunity to find a plan that keeps them connected to the doctors they trust.
Hitcho Insurance Agency recommends paying close attention to AEP if you:
Are currently on a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan
Have had your doctor, hospital, or pharmacy network change during the past year
Have experienced a change in health, medications, or budget since you last enrolled
Are an adult child helping a parent manage their coverage, especially from out of town
As an independent agency, Hitcho Insurance Agency is not tied to any single carrier. The agency is appointed with every major Medicare carrier in the region, which allows its advisors to compare options side by side. Every review follows the agency's proprietary 4E process: Evaluate, Educate, Endorse, Enroll.
Consultations are available at both of the agency's offices, in person or by phone, at no cost to the consumer. Carriers pay the agency directly, so a plan costs the same whether a person goes through Hitcho Insurance Agency or directly to the carrier.
