JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) Successfully Hosts 5-Day AICTE-MoE FDP on Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Bengaluru, July 2025 – JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC), proudly concluded a 5-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP).

 
This initiative aimed to equip faculty members and incubation managers from AICTE-approved institutions with the tools, frameworks, and confidence to mentor student innovators and support early-stage startups.
Key Highlights of the 5-Day FDP
· a) 50 + Faculty Members from diverse institutions across south India participated actively in the sessions.
· b) 13 Expert Speakers from industry and startups shared their insights.
· c) Day-wise Thematic Sessions covering entrepreneurship mindset, innovation frameworks, and startup strategies.
· d) Hands-on Workshops on customer discovery, problem validation, and Business Model Canvas.

Exposure to IP & Startup Finance, with practical insights on protecting ideas and managing funding stages.

Peer Learning & Reflections: Empathy map-based group activities, team reflections, and institutional action plans.
Real-World Application Focus: Participants drafted actionable strategies for integrating I&E into their institutions.
Day Wise Glimpse:
Day 1: Building the Entrepreneurial Mindset
The FDP commenced with a strong focus on evangelising entrepreneurship among students and empowering educators to cultivate a growth-oriented and reflective mindset essential for driving innovation on campus. The day opened with a compelling keynote session by Ms. Rajani Menon, Associate Director at TEKsystems, who emphasized the pivotal role of faculty as change agents. She highlighted critical educator competencies such as growth mindset, achievement motivation, Ikigai, and Level 5 leadership.
This was followed by an engaging session titled “Falling in Love with Problems” led by Mr. Alexander Rinku, Director – HR at Oracle India. He encouraged participants to identify real-world problems worth solving—those that are desirable, feasible, and viable for entrepreneurial exploration.
The session on Intellectual Property Rights for Startups, delivered by Mr. Sounak Sarkar from POCKETFM, provided valuable insights into patents, trademarks, and copyrights, along with case studies to support faculty in guiding students on IP protection.
The day concluded with an interactive workshop where participants applied problem discovery tools, including the Problem Statement Canvas and customer discovery frameworks, to validate opportunities within their own academic or professional domains.


Day 2: Deepening Empathy and Value Creation
Day 2 of the FDP focused on the importance of deeply understanding customer needs and designing impactful, value-driven solutions.
The day began with a session on Customer Discovery led by Mr. Syed Usman, Vice President of Sales at Veave. He introduced participants to tools and techniques for uncovering both spoken and unspoken customer needs, using methods such as empathy mapping, customer journey mapping, and the AEIOU observation framework.
This was followed by a session on Value Proposition Design by Mr. Rakesh Tiwari, Founder of a stealth-mode startup. He provided a practical framework for crafting strong, customer-centric value propositions and aligning them effectively with scalable business models.
Together, the sessions emphasized the critical link between customer insight and solution design, empowering faculty to guide their students through early-stage innovation processes.

Day 3: Startup Foundations and Strategy
Day 3 of the FDP was dedicated to strengthening participants' understanding of business modeling and startup financial readiness.
The day began with a session on Lean Startup Fundamentals by Mr. Karunakaran Vinayagam, HR Tech Builder, who introduced the Build-Measure-Learn loop—highlighting the importance of experimentation, iteration, and validated learning in early-stage ventures.
In the session on Finance for Startups, Mr. Aravind Thondan, Managing Director at Singularis Wealth, guided participants through the essentials of financial planning, including bootstrapping, angel investing, and venture capital strategies.
This was followed by an in-depth session on the Business Model Canvas (BMC) by Mr. Nandha Kumar, Analyst at State Street, where he explained how to use BMC as a strategic tool to design scalable business models with a focus on revenue streams, customer relationships, and asset-light structures.
The day concluded with a hands-on BMC activity led by Mr. Ramakrishnan AS, Associate at Borderless. Participants collaborated in groups alongside startup teams from the university’s incubation center to practically apply the BMC framework to real business ideas.

Day 4: Go-to-Market and Team Building
Day 4 of the FDP was devoted to equipping participants with strategies for launching ideas into real-world markets and leading innovation initiatives within academic ecosystems.
The day began with an inspiring session on Startup Pitching and Team Building by Mr. S. Krishnan, Life Transformation Coach. He emphasized the importance of building the right teams and shared insights on how to effectively pitch entrepreneurial ideas to investors.
This was followed by a comprehensive session on Go-to-Market Strategy by Mr. Ramashankar Gautam, Managing Director of Salonbasket. He provided a practical roadmap for launching products, covering aspects such as market research, customer segmentation, sales planning, marketing execution, and tracking key performance metrics.
The day concluded with an interactive group activity on Leading Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) on Campus, facilitated by Ms. Pratima Jagadeesh, Education Consultant. Through empathy mapping and reflective discussion, participants explored the distinctions between teaching, mentoring, and consulting, and developed plans to foster entrepreneurial spirit within their own institutions. Day 5: Reflection, Ideation, and Action Planning
The final day of the FDP focused on translating learning into actionable strategies and fostering a culture of continuous innovation within academic institutions.


The day began with an engaging session on Creativity and Idea Generation by Mr. Nitesh Kumar, Manager at Adobe. Participants explored powerful ideation techniques such as SCAMPER, brainstorming, and MashUp to spark innovative thinking and develop impactful solutions.


This was followed by a session on Institutional Integration Strategies led by Ms. Shalini Sriram, where participants developed personalized action plans to embed entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology transfer into their teaching, mentoring, and administrative responsibilities.


The programme culminated in a Peer Review and Sharing session, where teams presented their action plans, received feedback, and engaged in reflective discussions. This collaborative exchange reinforced a commitment to building sustainable innovation ecosystems across institutions through continued dialogue and support.
