A Powerful Memoir of Survival, Foster Care, and Finding a Reason to Live

Author Autumn Marie announces the upcoming release of a newly revised edition of her deeply personal memoir, A Life to Live For, which will soon be available through all major online retail channels worldwide.

A Life to Live For tells the unforgettable story of Maya—known to everyone as Susie—a little girl who grows up in foster homes, longing to feel loved and wanted. Instead, she is transported from one home to another, never having a sense of belonging. Her father is in prison, and the kids at school make fun of her. She yearns for a reason to live. She prays to God to let her die. No one loves her; she is all alone in this world.

Autumn Marie chronicles Susie’s raw journey through the foster care system, from the strict rules of strangers’ houses to the streets where she runs searching for freedom. Along the way, she encounters brief flickers of hope—a relationship with an older man, the promise of a new life—but even those moments are shadowed by loss, including a devastating miscarriage that leaves her questioning whether she will ever find a reason to keep going. Placed in a group home far from everything familiar, Susie must confront the darkest corners of her past before she can imagine a future.

Yet A Life to Live For is, at its core, a testament to resilience. When Susie finally meets a man who appears to cherish her, she dares to believe in happiness again. Even after the relationship turns abusive—testing every ounce of strength she has left—she discovers an unexpected gift that redefines her purpose: a pregnancy that gives her, at last, a life to live for.

Written with unflinching honesty and remarkable emotional clarity, A Life to Live For offers hope to survivors, advocates, and readers who need to know that light can emerge from even the most broken beginnings.
