Kansas City Lacks Reliable Local Pollen and Mold Counts During Peak Allergy Season

Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City metro area is currently without reliable pollen and mold counts due to technical issues at the area’s two primary allergy data collection stations — Kansas City Allergy & Asthma Associates and Children’s Mercy Hospital. Without this data, allergy and asthma sufferers lack the measured information they rely on to manage daily symptoms and make plans for outdoor activities.

Some online services and mobile applications provide local pollen forecasts based on models and weather conditions; however, those are merely estimates rather than direct air measurements. Accurate empirical pollen and mold counts for the Kansas City metro area remain largely unavailable until repairs and maintenance are completed at the affected primary allergy data collection sites.

Local agencies, medical centers, and environmental organizations are encouraged to collaborate and restore local pollen and mold tracking for the remainder of 2025 and in future allergy seasons.

Thank you for your attention to this important public health matter. Your reporting will help raise awareness and improve allergy management outcomes across the Kansas City metro area.

UPDATE
August 16, 2025:
We are pleased to report that pollen and mold count data services from Kansas City Allergy & Asthma Associates (KCAA) were fully restored as of August 14, 2025. Please note that pollen and mold count data from Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH) have not been updated since June 2, 2025 and therefore remain unavailable at this time.
